Love spicy food? Well thats great news, as researchers from Havard T.H Chan School of Public Health have found that spicy foods may actually help you to live a longer life! Among numerous other benefits spicy foods can lower your risk for cancer, heart disease, and respiratory problems. During this study researchers collected heath and diet information from over 480,000 aged between 30-70 years old. The correlations between eating spicy foods and a longer life were both examined and recorded. What they found was that, those who were regularly consuming spicy foods were also 14% more likely to live a longer life than those who were not eating these foods on a regular basis. Additionally so, these spicy food lovers were also less likely to die from heart disease, cancer, and respiratory problems.

Another similar study at the University of Vermont College produced similar results! These researchers collected data from 16,000 adults from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey of 1988-1994. What they found was that within the first 20 years almost 5,000 people had died and many of those who were shown to regularly consume red chili peppers outlived many of those who did not. These findings are suggestive that consuming spicy foods like chili peppers, may lower your risk of death from any cause especially a death related to any vascular diseases.Among both these studies the most popular spics consumed were chili peppers. However, chili peppers, jalapeños, and cayenne peppers all contain capsaicin in them which all contain antioxidant, anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and anti-obesity properties. Capsaicin was also found to reduce cholesterol and improve blood circulation.

More findings from the Military Medical University displayed that those who consumed spicy foods were also less likely to consume high doses of salt. This also helped lower their risk for heart problems as spicy foods can be used to trick the brain to divert from salt.  Another added benefit is that chili peppers are also known to help to reduce any acid in your stomach that could potentially lead to ulcers. This may also help relieve joint pains, migraines, allergies, help lose weight, fight against cancer, and also help strengthen your immune system.
