Keeping the mind sharp
Many studies reveal that playing board games can help keep the brains of elderly individuals sharp. Thats right, those who regularly participated in bingo chess and other similar games, were also shown to posses stronger thinking and memory skills. The University of Edinburgh Academics conducted a study involving 1,091 individuals all born in the year of 1939. All participants cognitive function was initially assessed at age 11 and then later again at ages 70, 73,76, and 79. Each participants frequency in activities such as bingo, chess, and, puzzles were also recorded. The findings revealed that those who continued participation in these games even well into their age also displayed less of a cognitive decline. Those who participated in more games has faster thinking skills and better memory capabilities. These findings suggest that cognitive decline related to age is not inevitable and there are certain activities within our control, which we can participate in to help slow this process.
